Welcome to today's update. We are covering a mix of history, technology, and sustainability. From the birth anniversary of the first Indian Governor-General to India's first hydrogen vessel floating in Varanasi, here is everything you need to know.
1. Tribute to C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji)
The Prime Minister paid tribute to Shri Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, affectionately known as Rajaji, on his birth anniversary (10th December). A titan of the freedom struggle, his life offers many key points for competitive exams.
Rajaji was the first recipient of the Bharat Ratna (India's highest civilian award) in 1954. He was also the first (and last) Indian Governor-General of Independent India.
Role in Freedom Struggle
- Inspiration: Influenced by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and the partition of Bengal, he joined the INC.
- Salt Satyagraha (South): While Gandhi marched to Dandi, Rajaji led the Vedaranyam Satyagraha in 1930 (Tiruchi to Vedaranyam).
- The C.R. Formula: After the Quit India movement, he proposed a formula to resolve the deadlock between the INC and the Muslim League.
Post-Independence & Literary Works
- Offices Held: Governor of West Bengal, Union Home Minister, and CM of Madras.
- Swatantra Party: Founded in 1959, advocating for a market economy.
- Literature: He wrote a famous Tamil retelling of the Ramayana titled Chakravarthi Thirumagan (Sahitya Akademi Award winner).
2. Hindustan Zinc’s Historic Plant in North India
In a major boost to the agriculture sector, Hindustan Zinc is launching a fertiliser plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.
- Significance: This will be the first phosphate plant in Northern India.
- Production: It will produce DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) and NPK fertilisers.
- Goal: To reduce import dependency and support the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.
3. Sujalam Bharat App Launched
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has introduced a digital tool to revolutionize rural water management under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Key Features of the App
- Sujal Gaon ID: Every habitation gets a unique digital identity detailing water sources and infrastructure health.
- Transparency: It allows communities to monitor the performance of Gram Panchayats and water committees.
- Tech Support: Developed with BISAG-N and integrated with PM Gati Shakti GIS for precise mapping.
4. India’s First Indigenous Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel
Marking a historic shift towards green transport, the Union Minister flagged off India’s first indigenous hydrogen fuel-cell vessel in Varanasi (at Namo Ghat).
Why is this important?
- Global League: This move places India alongside nations like Norway, Japan, and China in adopting hydrogen maritime technology.
- Sustainability: It is a major step in the Green Inland Waterways initiative, aiming to reduce pollution in the Ganga while boosting tourism.
