Daily Current Affairs: MP Free of Naxalism & Prada Meets Kolhapuri
📅 Date: 12 December 2025 (Friday)
Welcome to your daily digest. Today brings major internal security news from Madhya Pradesh, a fusion of Italian luxury with Indian heritage, and a tribute to a 1971 war hero.
1. Madhya Pradesh Declares State "Free of Naxalism"
In a significant achievement for internal security, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has declared the state free of Naxalism. This announcement follows the success of the ‘Rehabilitation to Rejuvenation’ campaign.
The Bigger Goal: This aligns with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s guidance to eliminate Naxalism from India by 2026.
2. Rajasthan’s "Adopt a Tourism Site" Initiative
The Rajasthan tourism department is shaking things up with its new Tourism Policy 2025. They are introducing a Public-Private Partnership model called "Adopt a Tourism Site."
- Concept: Private players and local communities can adopt heritage and eco-tourism sites to manage and operate them.
- Self-Sustaining Model: Partners can introduce commercial activities (like shopping arcades with local crafts/cuisine) to generate revenue for maintenance.
- Benefit: This reduces the burden on the government while helping local artisans sell their products directly to tourists.
3. Unveiling Statue of 1971 War Hero: Thakur Balwant Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to unveil a statue of Thakur Balwant Singh in Bakhasar village, Barmer (Rajasthan).
Why is he a Hero?
- The Chhachhro Raid: During the 1971 India-Pakistan war, his immense local knowledge and bravery helped the Indian Army capture Chhachhro in Sindh, driving out Pakistani forces.
- Unique Recognition: In honor of his service, criminal cases against him were withdrawn, and he was granted two all-India weapon licenses.
Since we are discussing the 1971 war, it is crucial to remember the peace treaty that followed.
- Signed: 2nd July 1972 by Indira Gandhi and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
- Key Provision (LoC): The ceasefire line was renamed the Line of Control (LoC). Both sides agreed not to alter it unilaterally.
- Bilateralism: It established that Kashmir issues must be resolved bilaterally, preventing international intervention.
4. Italian Luxury meets Indian Craft: Prada signs Kolhapuri Deal
In a fascinating blend of global fashion and Indian tradition, Italian luxury brand Prada has signed an MoU to launch a limited-edition collection of Kolhapuri Chappals.
- The Deal: About 2,000 pairs will be made, combining Prada’s design with traditional Indian craftsmanship.
- Manufacturing: These will be handcrafted in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
- The Art: Authentic Kolhapuris are made from vegetable-tanned leather (cow, buffalo, or goat) and are stitch-free (no nails used).
GI Tag Fact: Kolhapuri Chappals received Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2019, covering 8 districts across Maharashtra and Karnataka.
