Daily Current Affairs: New CIC Appointed & AI for Health

Important News and Articles: 14-15 December 2025

Welcome to the weekend wrap-up. Today we cover a major appointment in the Indian administration, a tech-driven health initiative in Rajasthan, and a quick revision of Mission LiFE.

1. Rajasthan Deploys AI X-rays for TB Detection

The Rajasthan State Health Department is leveraging technology to fight Tuberculosis. They have launched an initiative deploying 29 advanced portable X-ray machines to strengthen diagnosis.

🤖 How it works:
These machines use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to rapidly identify suspected TB cases.
  • Screening: High-sensitivity digital chest X-ray + Computer-Aided Detection (CAD).
  • Diagnosis: Flagged patients are linked to Xpert molecular testing for rapid confirmation.

Target Areas: The focus is on high-risk, congregate settings like brick kilns, mining areas, jails, hostels, and slums where the disease spreads faster.

2. Raj Kumar Goyal Sworn in as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC)

Raj Kumar Goyal, a former IAS officer, has been sworn in as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) by President Droupadi Murmu. The post had been vacant since September 2025.

Background: He retired in August 2025 as the Secretary, Department of Justice.

📚 Polity Corner: Central Information Commission (Static GK)

1. Nature: It is a Statutory Body (established under the RTI Act, 2005), NOT a Constitutional body.

2. Composition: 1 Chief Information Commissioner + Max 10 Information Commissioners.

3. Appointment Committee: Appointed by the President on the recommendation of:
  • The Prime Minister (Chairperson)
  • The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha
  • A Union Cabinet Minister nominated by the PM
4. Important Rules:
  • They are not eligible for reappointment.
  • They must not be MPs, MLAs, or hold an office of profit.
  • Their function is to ensure the effective implementation of the RTI Act.

3. Revision: What is Mission LiFE?

With environmental concerns rising, India’s global initiative Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) remains relevant. Launched in October 2022, it promotes sustainable living through mindful consumption.

The 7 Core Themes:

  • 💧 Saving Water
  • ⚡ Conserving Energy
  • 🗑️ Reducing Waste
  • 📱 Managing E-waste
  • 🚫 Eliminating Single-use Plastics
  • 🥗 Promoting Sustainable Food Systems
  • 🏃 Adopting Healthy Lifestyles

Stay updated! The appointment of the CIC is a very high-probability question for upcoming Polity and Governance exams.
