1. Nitin Nabin Appointed BJP National Working President

In a significant political development, Bihar minister Nitin Nabin has been appointed as the National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

👤 Profile: Nitin Nabin
  • Born: 23 May 1980 in Ranchi.
  • Political Career: He is a five-time consecutive MLA from the Bankipur constituency (Patna), holding the seat since 2006.
  • Legacy: He entered politics following the demise of his father, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, who was a veteran BJP leader.

2. Hansi Becomes Haryana’s 23rd District

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has officially announced the creation of the state's 23rd district: Hansi.

  • Administrative Change: Hansi was previously a part of the Hisar district. It will now function as a separate administrative entity.
  • Historical Significance: Hansi is noted for its rich heritage and historical identities like Asi or Asigarh, playing a role in various past struggles.

3. Target Set: 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras by 2027

The government is pushing for affordable healthcare with a new target: establishing 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) by March 2027.

Why is this important?

  • Affordability: These outlets sell quality generic medicines at prices much lower than branded alternatives.
  • Growth: The scheme has seen a 37% increase in outlets and a 38% rise in sales value in the last financial year, showing growing public trust.
  • Opportunity: Entrepreneurs, NGOs, and Trusts can apply online to open these Kendras.

4. NAMASTE Scheme: Surveying for Safety

The government has conducted a nationwide survey under the NAMASTE Scheme to identify Sewer and Septic Tank Workers (SSWs). The goal is to ensure their safety and end manual scavenging.

🛡️ Scheme Snapshot: NAMASTE

Launched: 2023–24 (Ministry of Social Justice & Housing Affairs).
Objective: To mechanize the cleaning ecosystem and achieve Zero Fatality in sanitation work.
Key Support:
  • Capital subsidies for mechanized equipment.
  • Safety devices for Emergency Response Sanitation Units (ERSUs).
  • Occupational safety training.

Legal Context

Section 7 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers Act, 2013 strictly prohibits hazardous entry into sewer or septic tanks. The NAMASTE scheme reinforces this by promoting mechanization under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0.
