Daily Current Affairs: Dr. Ambedkar’s Legacy & Judicial Reforms
📅 Date: 7-8 December 2025 (Sunday-Monday)
Welcome to the weekend wrap-up. Today, we pay tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution, look at a massive judicial overhaul in Bihar, and analyze Rajasthan's new battle against child marriage. Let’s dive in.
1. Remembering the Architect: Mahaparinirvan Diwas
Every year on 6th December, the nation observes Mahaparinirvan Diwas to mark the death anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. But why is it called that?
Key Contributions to the Nation
- Voice for the Voiceless: He founded the Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha (1923) and the newspaper Mooknayaka to empower the oppressed.
- The Fighter: He led the famous Mahad Satyagraha (1927) for water rights and the Kalaram Temple Entry (1930) to break caste barriers in worship.
- Political Representation: He negotiated the Poona Pact, ensuring reserved seats for Dalits instead of separate electorates.
- The Constitution: As Chairman of the Drafting Committee (1947), he steered the creation of the world’s largest written Constitution.
Economic & Modern Legacy
Many don't know that Dr. Ambedkar was a brilliant economist. His thesis actually influenced the creation of the Finance Commission and the framework for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Awards & Honors:
- Awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1990.
- Constitution Day is observed on 26th November since 2015 in his honor.
The Ambedkar Circuit (Panchteerth)
The government has developed five pilgrimage sites associated with his life:
- Janma Bhoomi: Mhow (Birthplace)
- Shiksha Bhoomi: London (Education memorial)
- Deeksha Bhoomi: Nagpur (Embraced Buddhism here)
- Chaitya Bhoomi: Mumbai (Cremation site)
- Mahaparinirvan Bhoomi: Delhi (Place of death)
2. Bihar to Establish 100 Fast Track Courts
In a major move to speed up justice, the Bihar government has decided to set up 100 Fast Track Courts (FTCs). The goal is simple: reduce the burden on existing courts and handle sensitive cases quickly.
Where will they be located?
- Major Cities: Patna gets the highest share (8 courts), followed by Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur (4 each).
- Districts: Places like Nalanda, Rohtas, and Saran will get 3 courts each to ensure justice reaches every corner.
Focus on Law & Order (Arms Act)
A significant highlight is that 79 out of these 100 courts will function specifically as "Act Courts." They will focus on cases related to the Arms Act, signaling a tough stance on illegal weapons and crime control in the state.
3. Mission 2030: Rajasthan’s Fight Against Child Marriage
Rajasthan is intensifying its battle against social evils. The civil society network Just Rights for Children (JRC) has identified 38 high-risk districts for a year-long campaign.
Why is this necessary?
Despite progress, the numbers are concerning. Rajasthan’s child marriage prevalence is 25.4%, which is higher than the national average of 23.3%.
The Big Picture
The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a nationwide movement to completely eliminate child marriage by 2030, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key Tools in this Fight:
- Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 (PCMA)
- POCSO Act, 2012
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
- CHILDLINE Services
