Welcome to your daily news digest. Today, we celebrate a massive achievement for Madhya Pradesh's tribal heritage and look at the updated targets for India's water mission.

1. National Honour for MP's Bharewa Craft

Madhya Pradesh’s tribal heritage took center stage today as President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious National Handicraft Award upon artisan Baldev Waghmare from Betul.

What is Bharewa Craft?

This is a unique metal-casting art form practised by a sub-community of the Gond tribe. It is not just art; it is a blend of spiritual belief and skill.

  • Location: Concentrated in the Betul district (approx. 180 km from Bhopal).
  • The Process: Skills are passed down from generation to generation using traditional metal-casting techniques.
  • Products: They create deity idols, traditional jewellery, and ritual accessories essential for Gond ceremonies.
🌟 Important Exam Point (GI Tag):
Bharewa metal craft has recently received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which legally protects its origin and boosts its international value.

The Artisan's Legacy: Baldev Waghmare is credited with revitalizing this dwindling art. He transformed his village, Tigriya, into a craft hub, ensuring livelihood for many families.

Static GK: The Gond Tribe

  • Population: One of the world’s largest tribal communities and the largest Scheduled Tribe (ST) in India.
  • Region: Primarily found in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
  • Culture: Their staple food is Kodo and Kutki millets. Their religion centers on nature deities.
  • Language: They speak Gondi (a Dravidian language).

2. Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM): Targets & Updates

The Jal Jeevan Mission remains a flagship project for rural welfare. Here is the latest snapshot for your exam preparation.

  • Launch Date: 15th August 2019.

  • The Goal: To provide a functional tap connection to every rural household.
  • Target Quantity: 55 litres of water per person per day.

Objectives: Remember the "TAP" Mnemonic

🎯 Easy Way to Remember JJM Objectives (TAP):

T — Target Every Household: Ensuring Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) reach everyone.
A — Areas of Priority: Special focus on drought-prone, desert regions, and Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) villages.
